"Shoot for the Moon" Bulletin Board & Printable

Bulletin Board "Shoot for the Moon..."I have been getting a lot of emails lately about this bulletin board.  The most Freqently Asked Questions? Well, the rocket, the lights, and the fonts.

1.) What is it made of?

The rocket is  made of cardboard, ductape, and fabric scraps.  The stars are white copy paper.  The border was “last years” and I just flipped it over and used the white side.

1.) How did you get the lights to stay on there?

The board is covered with black fabric and I used clear pushpins on each side of the rope light to put it into place.  Tip: Let your lights warm up BEFORE trying to attach them.  The slight amount of heat they produce makes them more flexible and they will be easier to guide and form.   If you look in the bottom left you will see a small black cord coming out. It’s a tiny extension cord that is tucked under the rocket.  The rocket is actually sitting off the board about 4 inches.  I taped two or three small cardboard boxes to the back to make it stand out and all all of the cord stuff to be tucked under the fabric behind it.  It’s amazing what staples over fabric can do to hold a cord in place!

2.) What fonts are those?

I’m addicted to fonts. There, I admit it.  Fonts are like potato chips… you can’t have just one. I collect free fonts. I save them. I use them. I never, ever remember their names.  I went through my list today and attempted to recreate the title of the board and have made a PDF for anyone to download and print.   I purposely typed the words out of order so that you could easily load your paper with printer and then certain words would be certain colors.

I hope this isn’t too late for some of you who emailed asking me about the fonts.  I feel like I should make some space pun about launching into a new year… but I’m still exhausted from the week.  Enjoy your weekend! :)

When I came back today to look at it one more time I was thrilled to see you generously offered the words in font- THANK YOU! I am just learning about all these wonderful blogs due to my 19 year old daughter telling me I needed to take a look at all the fun things on pinterest. YOur board has been pinned by many people. 6. Thanks so very much! I have a creative friend who came in to school with me yesterday and did the board for me. It turned out wonderful. Not as high tech/awesome as yours but wonderful all the same. I appreciate the font download. Sandra did mine free hand but it will fade so I will need back up eventually. I posted about the board and gave you a shout out!!

  7. Thank you Thank you! I literally jumped for joy when I saw that you had shared a pdf of the fonts. Literally. I found your blog a few days ago and I just spent the last hour (or two) making the rocket. Just when I was about to tackle the font and went back on your site for a second glance…. I found this!

Will be posting my attempt at recreating your board over here at http://www.asurvivalguidetomiddleschool.blogspot.com/ after I set up my room tomorrow!

  12. Hi Krissy! I’m starting my 1st year teaching, in 5th, and will be adapting this idea for my classroom. I think it is just perfect! Your site has been inspirational to me as I try to navigate the 1st year maze of projects and planning. I am posting about this on my blog, and will be posting my own version once I get into my classroom! Thank you!

  13. Hi, I love this board! I am going to put it in my before and after school room. How did you make the rocket? The rocket its self is cardboard, the purple and orange is fabric but what is the shiny silver?

  14. This board is awesome. Thank you so much for the idea. I hope you still look at replies for these even though you posted this a year ago because I have a question! How did you attach the cardboard rocket to the bulletin board? My mind can’t figure it out! Thanks in advance! :)

  15. I handed my husband the picture and, being the creative guy that he is….your beautiful creation is now on the door to the classroom. Everyone has commented on how wonderful, and I gave you all the credit. (Of course, they knew that I WASN’T that creative so it was not a surprise that found something so grand and tried my best to duplicate.) Where you put the duct tape – I went for glitter. Hey! You can NEVER have enough glitter! Thank you SO much for sharing.

  16. Is there a link to your city theme stuff? I love your “Bright Lights Big Learning” theme!

  17. I would love it if you could send me the file you said you have on the words. Thanks!
